I have always known that life is a journey. Somedays I am overly excited to get out there and see what wonderful can happen, other days I just want to hide under my pillow because anxiety overtakes me. Last weekend, I experienced one of those days when I was ready to take on the world, and lucky for me three of my friends were ready to take to the road with me.
And, as it were, we were all ready for adventure, ready to see something new. Companions on a day road trip, joined together to help each other persevere in the road to a happier life. Escaping from the hectic pace and heavy responsibilities of everyday life, to perhaps surrender to the possibility that always arises when conversations are shared from a place of love. Behind the wheel of my car, driving off into the horizon, sharing our lives, what better way to spend a Saturday afternoon. And at the end of the day, there is always something to be learned. Four very different women, seemingly at the precipice of big change in their lives, making a grand affirmative gesture by getting into a Blue X5, ready, almost begging to rediscover something magical about our lives. To find a key to perhaps make the transition that much easier- more peaceful maybe-for I think we all knew that less than 24 hours later we would return to where it all began just a little shinier, definitely filled with more hope for the future, a little lighter having let go of the burdens that have been holding us back for so long.
You’d think that we had found our yellow brick road that carried us to the Emerald City. Four friends looking for a way back home, to that place where we felt whole, safe, special, loved. Only to discover once we get to our destination, that we had the power of all of this all along. We just needed to stop and go a little bit slower, so that we can experience the joy, the truth of our lives, get in tune with our senses as we connect to others, open up to the wisdom that is shared, embrace the mystery, and allow ourselves to become more and more the beautiful butterflies that we are.
What drew the four of us together that day? I suppose the road awaits, and instead of turning our back, we answered the call. Only to then return to where we started, seeing with new eyes, knowing our lives from that point on for the first time. Renewed as we embrace the Earth under our feet, the wind in our hair and the excitement of that something wonderful, if we stop long enough to notice. Magic at every turn, shared moment by moment, in a living prayer. So grateful that I did not decide to hide under my pillow- I got out and learned something new about myself. Don’t you know that is what the journey is for and that the Road awaits each one of us, what are we waiting for? Ready for a new adventure!
