With Special Guest Derek Fernandez- FOR ALL OF YOU POPPIE FANS, Poppiepalooza takes on Broadway this week- tune is as we get excited to expore Joy with the Poppie as well.

Derek was born in April 1990 in Girona, a small city in the northeastern part of Spain close to the French Border and spent most of his childhood and adolescence in the town of Banyoles. Through his adolescence years he realized that life in a small town was meaningless for him as he was eager to discover the world and learn more aspects about existence, so when he was 14 years old he had already decided he wanted to move to Barcelona. When he turned 16, he started reading books about philosophy and discovered the extraordinary works of Friedrich Nietzsche and subsequently became deeply impacted by the book of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Derek decided to study Business Administration at ESADE Business School, one of the most prestigious schools in Europe and he eventually got admitted with a scholarship. During his studies he went to Miami to do an internship in PR at Porsche Latin America in the beginning of 2012, being his first time he travels beyond Europe and that was the first experience that really changed him. That was the point when he had decided to pursue an international career where he felt he would be able to answer questions about our existence and our role in the world. Right after his internship in Miami he moved to Beijing in September to study economics and Mandarin at Tsinghua University, considered the most prestigious University in China and one of the most reputable in Asia. There, Derek wanted to learn more about Chinese way of life and the rapid change that the society experienced and he tried very hard to be immersed into the Chinese culture and be surrounded by local students, which proved to be a notable challenge. In January 2013 he went back to Barcelona to write his Senior Thesis but before leaving he had clear in his mine that those 6 months would not be the last period of time he would in China and he kept studying Mandarin for an additional two years. In June 2013, Derek got graduated in Business Administration and he decided to seek a job that could bring him an international exposure, although the situation is Spain was tough as the unemployment rate for young people at that time was 55%. However, he eventually got hired to work for Celsa Group a family owned Spanish Steel Company and one of the largest steel companies in Europe. He started as a Sales Representative for Tunisia and West Africa in moments of certain political instability in those areas. After working for almost a year in the company, he got promoted to manage the area of Latin America, where he would oversee a much bigger and more relevant market. At this point, in March 2015 he decided to move to Miami to settle down and work for the same company for Latin America in order to be closer to his customers and growth the business presence of the corporation. A few months later, he was also assigned the US market and has been working in the same company since then, having traveled to many countries across Africa and America, which allowed him to learn from different cultures, to experience challenging and enriching situations and to meet many different people in all those business trips. Derek works remotely and he does neither have a TV nor any streaming subscription like Netflix so in his free time he loves to drive around Florida to discover new places, read books about many topics, try new restaurants in Miami, and he especially loves Sewing as a way to develop his creativity and relax from his daily duties.
